Acupuncture - how to prepare for your initial visit

First Visit

Because the healing process is a partnership between practitioner and patient I believe strongly in educating my patients and equipping them with the tools to sustain their health independently whenever possible. Teaching patients to pay attention to their health and how to shift their own symptoms is core to this form of acupuncture. The more you become involved with your health and take responsibility for your body, the better you will feel. The attached Qi-Mover Acupuncture Information sheet is additional information about ways to enhance your treatments that you can print out.

Your first visit will generally last about two hours. It will include a history taking, discussion about your concerns and what you want to get out of acupuncture, an acupuncture physical exam that is non-invasive, and a first treatment. Additional appointments will last about 45 minutes to an hour.

Prior to Your First Visit

It will be helpful if you would download the Patient Intake Form and complete it prior to your first visit. If you are unable to do so, please arrive a few minutes early to complete the intake form at my office.

Spend some time thinking about what you would like to achieve from your acupuncture treatment. What are your expectations? What questions or concerns do you have about acupuncture?

Part of the journey to better health is to pay close attention to your body. Start noticing how you feel each day and make a few notes if possible. With respect to your chief complaint, try to answer these questions:

When did this condition first appear? Is this a new condition or a recurring illness?
What brought it on? What triggers it?
Is your condition getting worse?
To what degree does it interfere with your daily routine, work or sleep?
What aggravates it? What provides relief?
What time of day does it bother you the most? the least?
